We are now in Sydney, having spent yesterday and this morning in Auckland. With Great Internet at the hotel where we are staying (see below), I have added a number of photos to our post for Papeete, Cook Islands and Tonga.

In Auckland we renewed memories of our visit in 2010. We took a hop-on-hop-off bus for about three hours and had lunch at the fancy revolving restaurant in the Sky Tower. Then we took a ferry across the bay to Devenport, a lovely walkable community with shops, restaurants and waterfront parks. This morning (the 3rd) we flew to Sydney to spend some extra days here. We will be here at a Marriott a block from the waterfront for five nights before rejoining the ship on Sunday when it arrives here. Sydney was one of the highlights of our 2010 trip, so we have a lot planned.

In case any of the dates seem weird, keep in mind that having crossed the International Dateline, it is one day ahead here of what it is at home. Thus, at 10 in the morning here today on Tuesday, it was 6 pm on Monday at home in Bluffton. Although true, that seems weird even as I write it!

We had a scare before leaving Auckland. I lost my phone yesterday, likely in the ferry terminal where we left for Devenport. I came back and looked everywhere, talking to vendors and ticket sellers where I had previously stopped in the terminal. No luck. This morning just before we needed to leave for the airport, I went back to the ferry terminal (next to where the ship was docked) and tried again. This time, I found someone who knew where the terminal’s lost and found garage was. Bingo! Success! So with my camera back I am still a very happy camper on this trip!

I will report on our Sydney stay late this week – likely on Saturday or Sunday.

  1. So happy changes are working out ok. Also glad you found your phone. Need to put it in case with a string around your neck. LOL. In the keys and having a great time. Love my one on one time with Wendy. Weather is great but windy. Hope to get the boat in the water soon. Sounds like you’re having a great time. Waiting to hear if our trip is still on in May. Oh well not going to worry about it. Have a great time and we’ll talk soon/
    . Love you

  2. Hanging in there with you on your journey. I was pretty sure the virus thing would upset your schedule. It is a terrible thing. Praying you stay healthy and safe.
