The ship docked in Freemantle (port for Perth) on March 21 after earlier being denied the authority to dock again anywhere in Australia for fear that we might have COVID-19 sufferers on Board. The Australian government relented after Holland America convinced them that we had been nowhere except in Australian waters for over two weeks and that we were, therefore, as virus-free as Australia!
While at sea we had booked flights to get home, but with our efforts to move flights earlier and the changes airlines made to our itineraries, we had five itinerary changes before we got home!
We stayed on the ship for one more night; then disembarked on the 22nd and spent overnight at a hotel in Perth. We flew to Sydney on the 23rd and stayed that night at one of our favorite hotels, the Marriott on Sydney Harbour.
On the 24th, we flew to San Francisco, then on to Houston and finally to Ft. Lauderdale. Dave III and Steven drove to the airport in two cars to deliver our car to us (we had left it at their home on January 4). We exchanged virtual hugs to practice social distancing, a bit fearful that we might have been exposed to the virus in the five airports, four planes and two hotels since leaving the ship.
We stayed that night at a hotel in Boca Raton and drove home on Wednesday, March 25. Since then we have done as much as possible to avoid direct contact with others.
We are very happy to be home and are thrilled that we had the opportunity to see so many amazing places in this wonderful world in which we live.
It was an great trip.
Many thanks to all of you who have followed us. We hope you enjoyed the trip. We certainly did!
The end!
One last skyline peek from our Sydney hotel before flying home. (The Opera house is on the left.)
